EPISODE CHANGE: NEXT WEEK'S MOVIE WILL BE FAIL-SAFE (1964)

We effed up.

When we picked THE LOST WEEKEND for next week's episode, Devin and I didn't bother to double-check that people could watch it. I mean, it's THE LOST WEEKEND -- the Best Picture of 1946! -- of course it's online for rent.

It isn't. So we're going to hold off on THE LOST WEEKEND until people can properly vote. I'll keep checking to see when someone puts it up.

Instead! Next week's movie is Sidney Lumet's Cold War thriller FAIL-SAFE. Give it a watch.

Now. I really liked to watch Fail Safe. Tense as hell, Walter Matthau is fun, and the editing is really good.... That scene in the car with the woman who is turned on.... darn. So well shot: First they are seperated by the window frame of the car, and as soon as it becomes clear to Matthau's professor that she's into him, they are together in the frame. Darn, that's smart.

Having said that I think that you guys now have no reason anymore to avoid a Kubrick film after this...

I enjoy the seductive powers of game theory on display in the first 15-20 minutes of this. Sadly, that never happened to me during any of my economics or IR courses.

I remember seeing the George Clooney TV remake back in the day. Looking forward to visiting the original. I recently heard it mentioned in relation to Dr Strangelove. Would be an interesting VS episode

I guess I can wait for The Lost Weekend discussion, but I'm excited for a Lumet movie I haven't seen yet!

That was fast: @keltar93 spotted THE LAST WEEKEND as an upcoming flick on Vudu, where it will be available 3/15. Hooray for being able to do it next month.
