I thought it better to repost this here rather than allow it to languish as the sole comment on the Working Girl comment feed. Any ways I take the tee ball thing back since the last show was a vigorous debate.
"You guys have been playing tee ball recently :) How about something a touch more challenging like The Last Temptation of Christ... Will you cast a stone at its feet of clay and banish it to obscurity? Or will you grant its head of gold apotheosis and allow it to ascend to The Canon? It would also be a good opportunity to pay tribute to the late and great David Bowie in his third best acting role!"
I think this would make for a great Easter show. You could even up the stakes and transmute it into a versus episode by having a battle for the crown of thorns with The Passion of the Christ.
I don't think Last Temptation of Christ versus Passion of the Christ would be a good versus. There's no way Passion would win. You could make a case for its place in the canon, but once it came to voting I think there are too many hard feelings for the movie. It wouldn't have a chance.
How about this for a versus: The Last Temptation of Christ versus The Ten Commandments. Then it would be an Easter/Passover special!
Well I don't think the Last Temptation of Christ is a shoe in for the canon, however, it would make for a legendary discussion. And it would definitely merit its own show.
But.... temptation is always preceded by passion and adding The Passion of the Christ would make for a sweet Easter basket! Aside from Four Lions its got the most hilarious appearance of a raven ever recorded on film. It's got Powder as Satan accompanied by the little daemon from Holy Mountain. Like Temptation, its got international controversy and notoriety. And I think both have an academy award winning director. But most of all, if Cannibal Holocaust gets in the canon then Passion of the Christ definitely deserves a shot because (except for that turtle scene.... And that monkey scene) it is ten time more difficult to watch.
Saying all that I would love to hear an ep exclusively devoted to Temptation. I mean Harvey Keitel as Judas who wouldn't want to talk about that for two hours.... that and the John the Baptist scene
I'd really like to hear Devin expound on Last Temptation. But how about a different versus opponent though? I feel like Passion of the Christ would just get annihilated. What about something like Pasolini's The Gospel According to St. Matthew instead?
I would love to do LAST TEMPTATION. Interesting versus idea!
