It's a tossup between this and "Citizen Ruth" as Alexander Payne's best film. "Election" is just a tremendously great piece of filmmaking.
In case anyone is interested. A few years ago, the alternate ending was released. It's not that good. So happy it was re-shot.

@hbr47 I would love that. I honestly don't know which I'd choose.
If they do Johnnie To's Election, they should go for a versus episode that pits Election 1 vs. Election 2.
@benh7 Can't wait to check it out this Sunday. I think it's the only Alexander Payne film I haven't seen. Maybe they'll consider To's film somewhere down the line.
@SS7 I agree To's Election is a masterpiece but this film is also perfect. I really really love it so should be an interesting episode.
I wish they were doing an episode on Johnnie To's ELECTION instead...
Reece Witherspoon really was the perfect fit for the Tracy Flick role. I think we all knew that character when we were in high school and she got it spot on. I actually just started teaching high school this year and already much of this movie hits home. I think this is such an interesting choice, cant wait to hear the discussion.
If Tracy Flick and Paul Metzler were dating in the end, they would end up as the Clintons. Was I the only one who thought this while watching?
It will make the second week in a row that a blonde who is quickly climbing the ladder of success will be viewed by a self-righteous intellectual figure as the personification of evil.
Unlike William Hurt's character though, Tracy Flick fits the bill perfectly.
I look forward to Amy's passionate defense of Tracy Flick due to her blonde hair.
This one's been on my to-watch list for a long time. Currently streaming on Netflix!
